Placentia's downtown district preserves the city's railroad era heritage through historic buildings and ongoing revitalization efforts.
The Placentia-Santa Fe District encompasses the downtown and southwest area, retaining the architectural and commercial character of the city's early development. Within this historic zone stand the A.S. Bradford House, a landmark restored as a historic house museum, and the Berkenstock Mansion, a 100-year-old structure that anchors the district's sense of continuity. These buildings represent the period when Placentia served as a major railroad stop along the Santa Fe line, a hub for orange processing that shaped the region's 20th-century economy.
The George Key Ranch Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, preserves a Victorian ranch house within a 2-acre park that includes outdoor displays and a citrus grove. The district reflects the agricultural foundation on which early Placentia was built, and the park remains a community gathering place and source of local history. In recent years, the city has pursued transit-oriented development and commercial revitalization, including a Metrolink project designed to connect the historic downtown core with new housing, retail and public spaces.
